The Math of Sex
LIZZIE…Sex…When you hear that word, what do you think? When I hear that word, I think oh, crap, not this again and roll my eyes or oooh, come on, give me the details, with who and when…depending on the context. (Can you guess which one is a reaction to parents/ teachers and which to friends?) Sex is definitely one of the more interesting topics in school conversations, and honestly, the topic comes up more often than a parent would think…either listening to someone brag about how grown up they are and what they did or hearing about the trouble someone got into or just some comment by a teacher about using condoms. So really the topic of sex is all over the place.
But still, for a lot of girls my age, it’s scary to think about sex, and I don’t blame them. With all the media shit going on and the lack of clothing that girls wear (or don’t!) at school, it can be oh so confusing. I’m going to share some inside information you may not want to hear. Of my various acquaintances at school, pregnancy (yes, regardless of sex talks by parents and years and years of sex ed) is an issue. The current count is four pregnancies with three abortions and one who had the child and gave it up for adoption. (Just so you know, I go to a pretty upscale public high school usually ranked at the top in the state in terms of academics.)
So on the subject of sex, it’s really all up to the teens. Everyone goes through sex ed at school, but it’s up to the individual teen how they process that information and make their choices.
Okay, and just to let you know…I don’t know why crude (sex) humor is so popular with teens, but it is. So to end this blog I will share a currently popular sex poem:
The Math of Sex
Minus the clothes
Plus the bed
Divide the legs
And pray you won’t multiply

Hey,
it’s interesting to read it from a gril’s point of view.
Here in Germany, there are those conversations, sure, but I guess not as much as in the USA
According to the jokes I want to meantion that it is very popular here, too, and I don’t know why either^^
Jo, in hope that I could help in any way

Lizzie,
have you learned the art of leaving the reader hanging, waiting for more? Are you becoming a tease?
You got my attention with “I’m going to share some inside information you might not want to hear.”
Where’s the information?
I want more, Lizzie, more.
Signed,
A Nosy Parent.

Keep writing. The please help from mom got me. I’m a mom of a 14 year old and the daily interaction is “interesting”. Sex is a GREAT topic; endlessly interesting in many ways. There is much to learn and much worth ignoring. Please keep writing!
I got here through the Rancho La Puerta website… thinking about the Feb. week… Oh how I love that place, ripples of goodness… hope I can make it.
